Please introduce yourself…
Hi, my name’s Steve and I’m the latest addition to the Brave Little Tank team. I joined the company in May, stepping into the role of Digital Designer and I’m thoroughly enjoying being part of the team.
I was born and raised in a North Kent seaside town, so working in Medway is… different! I love the location of the office in Chatham Historic Dockyard because we’re surrounded by such history and there’s always something interesting happening.
What lead you to work at Brave Little Tank?
I have been working in the digital design industry for around 10 years, having studied Multimedia at the University of Kent which encompassed subjects ranging from web design/development and 3D animation to video production and photography.
My first job was as a web designer and front-end developer, where I initially met Anthony (BLT Director). We both eventually moved on to another web management company where, while working as a graphic designer, I first met Chris (the other BLT Director) who was in a similar role for another department.
At this pointed we parted ways, as I started my own mountain bike shop whilst also working part-time as a freelance designer. Having enjoyed a change in role but ultimately deciding retail wasn’t for me, I ended up back in touch with Anthony and Chris who kindly offered me an opportunity in their rapidly expanding empire.
What is your role in the company?
As a Digital Designer, I mainly focus on making things look pretty – from website interfaces, to email campaigns and Google Display adverts and everything in between. I love working at Brave Little Tank as I’m allowed a great amount of creative freedom and I enjoy the variety that comes from working with clients from many different industries.
It’s great to be part of such a knowledgeable and friendly team, where I feel more like a family member than just another number and I’m excited about the future of the company and it’s potential.
Away from work, I entertain myself with all manner of different interests.
To keep fit, I spend a fair amount of time on my mountain bike, though I’ve also dabbled in other action sports including snowboarding, BMX and skateboarding.
To fuel my creative side, I enjoy visiting art galleries, exhibitions and museums and when time allows I break out the camera, mainly to photograph the beautiful Kentish landscape.
Besides this, my geeky side loves military history, anything Marvel/Star Wars related and everything about Disney theme parks. Oh, and one day I’d like to own an armoured vehicle – preferably a tank!
Future development goals?
In the future, I will to continue to expand my creative abilities and I also hope to gain a much deeper knowledge of user experience design. I have a passion for 3D modelling and animation which stems from university, so I would love the opportunity to reapply my skills and develop them further.
