Graduate/Junior Developer

We operate typical office hours, in a relaxed but vibrant office atmosphere in the Historic Dockyard, Chatham (this is not a remote role).

About the Role:

We are seeking a passionate Graduate/Junior Developer who is excited about pushing the limits of web technology.

You’ll be responsible for building, maintaining and upgrading different applications and sites for our external clients and some of our own products and services.

This position requires a combination of programming skills (namely PHP, HTML, CSS/Sass, and JavaScript) and aesthetics. The candidate should have a strong understanding of industry trends and very comfortable with WordPress. Experience with responsive and adaptive design is strongly preferred. Also, an understanding of the entire web development process, including design, development, and deployment is preferred.

You’ll be expected to contribute towards both the planning and code development stages of website builds, showing initiative and creativity. You must manage your own time effectively, and in doing so you are expected to be mindful at all times of the quality implications of your actions and strive to add value to the business.

What you’ll do:

The daily responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to:

+ Help and support customers with technical queries via email, phone and Zoom
+ Learn different systems, software and technologies we use
+ Work closely with the lead developer & design team
+ Help oversee website testing, both manual and automatic
+ Detail, document and test bug fixes
+ Translate designs/written requirements into functional systems
+ Help develop responsive websites
+ Design & develop new features and functionality
+ Other duties as required.

What you’ll need:

Our ideal candidate has these top qualities and qualifications;

+ Minimum 1 year PHP/WordPress experience
+ Understanding of WordPress development principles, functions and hooks
+ Software support experience is not essential but ideal
+ GIT/BitBucket experience
+ Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
+ Extreme ownership of tasks / completing what you start
+ Must be process-oriented
+ Understanding of WordPress development principles, functions and hooks

+ Good observation and detailed investigating/diagnosis skills
+ Analytical thinking / problem solving
